GelSeatCushions.com Launched

July 02, 2004

GelSeatCushions.com is one of the latest projects I've been working on. I really enjoyed working on this website because of the feel I had to create for it. The idea was to give it a "medical" feeling without flooding it with medical "language" (although there is still some). Overall, the content is friendly and easy to read.

Designing the homepage was a bit interesting as well. After understanding Mark Hurst's The Page Paradigm, I designed the homepage with one purpose: To take users to the product list so they can see all the different gel seat cushions. All of the links on the body of the homepage did this. I attempted to follow the Page Paradigm on the other pages as well. We'll see how effective it is.

I actually have one of these gel seat cushions in my office and love it. I sit all day and it helps to have a cushy seat. Go ahead and buy one! For office use, get the Contour or the Executive.

The site was created using XHTML and CSS, which makes the site easy to maintain and fast loading. For example, the homepage HTML is about 5K and the CSS is about 6K.

There will be more tweaks to come (for example, adding more pictures) but overall I'm really happy with the design.

nice design, gilbert!

thanks for referencing the page paradigm ... I'm going to have to look into that alot more ... it seems like something that is common sense, but not taken advantage of most of the time ...

so how's business going?

Thanks, Chuck. Business is good. One reason I haven't had the chance to write much here is I'm so busy.

I've written a piece I'm going to finish in a day or so about 'product pictures being proportional to its price.' I'm sure you get the point. I hope it will encourage other designers to focus on that aspect of ecommerce.
